What is Travel Training?

The FAST Travel Training Program is designed to introduce you to the benefits of riding on Fairfield and Suisun Transit (FAST). Taking a little time to learn how to utilize FAST services gives you the independence to get where you need to go with confidence. This training consists of classroom instruction ending with a ride on the bus to give you hands-on experience with your Transit Ambassador. The program introduces you to the features of FAST and provides helpful instruction on:

  • Planning your trip
  • Reading the schedules
  • Calculating your fare
  • Where to catch a bus
  • Best times of the day to travel
  • Boarding the bus
  • Requesting the lift or ramp to help with boarding
  • How to pay the fare
  • What to do if you get on the wrong bus
  • What to do if you miss your bus
  • Safety information and tips

Why Learn to Ride FAST?

FAST is a reliable cost-saving solution to your transportation needs which provides a frequent 30-minute schedule on most routes, low-cost monthly passes, discounted fares for seniors and qualified riders with disabilities, and easy to understand color-coded maps. The local FAST system travels to several popular destinations within Fairfield and Suisun City. In addition to various schools, parks and shopping destinations, FAST also travels to most of the local medical facilities including the Sutter Medical Center (Lowe Court), Kaiser (Gateway), North Bay Medical Center (Pennsylvania) and David Grant at Travis Air Force Base.

If your destination is outside of the Fairfield/Suisun City area, Solano Express has routes from Fairfield to Vacaville, Dixon, Davis and Sacramento. They also offer transportation to three different BART stations (El Cerrito del Norte, Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek).

What is a Transit Ambassador?

Many of us are nervous when we try something new. That’s why FAST has Transit Ambassadors to help you learn how to use FAST buses. Transit Ambassadors are members of our community who volunteer to help you learn to ride the bus with confidence. They come from a cross section of ages, backgrounds and occupations, and go through comprehensive training to provide potential transit riders with the best service possible.

Transit Ambassadors are available to travel with you and provide free personal assistance with learning how to ride on FAST. Once you know how to ride the bus and are comfortable on transit, you will be venturing out independently and enjoying everything the City, County, and even the Bay Area have to offer!

All Transit Ambassadors undergo a background check through the Fairfield Police Department.
